Do you want to understand more fully about “existence”? How about the answers to why we are here. Or the question, where we are going? And furthermore what is our purpose? The closest theory to explaining things may be right before us. The fact of the matter is that we do not have all the answers. Such questions have eluded us since the beginning of time. There is research that supports that “not knowing” may be the cause of general anxiety, and other mental health issues. This is scientifically sound information when one realizes the power of our thoughts. As a psychology professor at Mohawk Valley Community College and Pratt School of Art I had the opportunity to explore some things. What I found was not only useful for my lesson but that it put some things into perspective for me. At the risk of sounding overly scientific I propose to my students the concept or theory of Quantum Physics.
Ok the truth is that at times I heard my students challenge me over the lectures given on Quantum Physics. That was my intent and if you think about it intentions have a great deal of energy. They consist of thoughts, ideas and concepts that create our world. When one realizes that our brain processes only 2,000 of 200 billion bits of incoming information then just think about our brain’s capacity if it were harnessed. Think of pathways, often called neuro-networks. I liken it to the beltways such the one in Maryland. All these roads network a system that vehicles travel. Our brain is somewhat like that as it attaches or forms relationships with the brain and central nervous system. These are all concepts in connections. Isn’t that what it’s all about?
If I shift my thinking I make new connections internally but also externally. We relate to others differently if we really work on changing our thinking. It is a biological phenomenon that becomes relational as we actually do create our own reality. If you have the time to watch the video it would be a full course of psychology from this perspective. If you have the courage assesses your own addictions. We all have them as we are addicted to our own thinking that creates our reality. Whatever you believe in becomes your reality. While I treasure my beliefs it doesn’t have to be challenged our discarded but at the same time it is realized.
Whatever the case my practice is aligned with helping patients to learn to accept and live in the mystery. There are some things we don’t know and cannot control. The paradox is that while they are complex they are also simple. I tell my students, patients and listeners If you can identify your triggers, explore your beliefs about them, then you can alter the consequences. This is truly positive psychology if you realize that we create a self- fulfilling prophecy. That is your reality and the road to recovery, goals and secret for success.
